KATHAKALI FEST


A week long Kathakali fest is a major event being conducted under the aegis of the club during the first week of January every year and is held on the silky sand bed of the holy river Pampa at Ayroor Cherukolpuzha close to the venue of Hindumatha Mahamandalam, the largest congregation of Hindu meet in Kerala. The fest is held from 6 pm to 9.30 pm every day and a large turn out of spectators including foreign nationals throng the auditorium and witness the performance with fervor and gaiety. The entry to the programme is free and open to all.

As part of Kathakali fest, Kathakali workshops and Lecture Demonstrations are being conducted for the school and college going students as part of their curriculum with a view to instill in them a sense of classical culture. Not less than 10000 students from various schools and colleges of central Travancore participate in the workshop and enjoy the splendid Kathakali demonstrations and allied performance. Ahead of the evening Kathakali fete music concert and jugalbardi are conducted with a view to acquaint rasikas with ragas of Kathakali music and carnatic music. Again debates on Kathakali plays, interaction with audience are the other salient features of Kathakali Mela.
